Week 38 in review: Huawei’s Mate 30 and 30 Pro, vivo NEX 3 arrive


This week Huawei unwrapped the Mate 30 series. The Mate 30 Pro, Mate 30 and Porsche Design Mate 30 RS are packed to the brim with the very best hardware but are limited to a Google Service-deprived Android. It’s also unclear which markets are going to get the new Mate 30 devices. China buyers will be able to unbox their new Mate 30 and 30 Pro on September 28 with global sales potentially lined up for October.

vivo introduced the NEX 3 5G with a Snapdragon 855+ and, because it came two days before the Mate 30 PRo, the first Waterfall Display.

A new phone from Xiaomi’s sub-brand Redmi also debuted this week. The Redmi K20 Pro Premium packs a Snapdragon 855+, up to 12GB of RAM and up to 512GB of storage.

We saw a hands-on video of the Xiaomi Mi 9 Pro and Xiaomi confirmed that it will be launched alongside the Mi Mix 4 at a special event next week – September 24. Incidentally Realme X2 will become official in China on the same September 24 date. .

Meanwhile, the Redmi Note 8 Pro’s European prices were leaked – the starting €259 nets you a 6GB+64GB unit and you could jump to 6GB+128GB for €289.

OnePlus decided to go ahead and show off the design of the 7T in Blue while a press render of the 7T Pro leaked. The pair will become official on September 26, but the US will only get the non-Pro 7T.

The final big story is the new battery on the iPhone 11 Pro Max. The iPhone XS Max successor has a 3,969mAh battery – a 25% increase over its predecessor.
